Our Vision

Borne Dance is dedicated to mental health and eating disorder awareness

Borne Dance Company is a bicoastal team of collaborating artists based in New York City, NY and Sacramento, CA. The members of Borne Dance Company vary in artistic nuance and share a common goal of creating work that educates and raises awareness of eating disorders and other mental illnesses. We believe that art is a powerful healing tool and we hope to spread the idea of “recovery through art.” By collaborating with musicians, visual artists, and spoken word artists, Borne offers donation based shows, events, and workshops that provide educational resources and information on where to find help for these conditions. Donation based events provide the opportunity to reach a wider range of audience members, and when possible donations are given back to organizations that provide research and resources to those who are dealing with these disorders and illnesses. Through our own personal experiences and research, the members of Borne create thought provoking work that  sparks interest, compassion, and empathy in their audience. Borne Dance Company believes that education and compassion can lead to the prevention and an understanding of eating disorders and other mental illnesses.

Borne was created in 2015 by Katie Kilbourn and Kianna Moye and since then has performed at The Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Producer's Club, Dixon Place, Green Space, Anita's Way, the California Stage, and  Gallery MC. We have done collaborations with Project Heal, The Renfrew Center, The 36.24.26 Project, Schizophrenic.nyc, Renoly Santiago, Gabino A. Castelan, and The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Our workshops have been presented at Bellevue Hospital, Sunflower Adult Daycare, Frank Sinatra School of Performing Arts, Natomas Charter School of Performing Arts, and others. Borne has successfully hosted eight Eating Disorder Awareness benefit shows for NEDA and has been able to raise thousands of dollars for the organization. We are proud recipients of the NYFA City Corps Grant.
